Musica e Scienza sono spesso concepite come le due facce di una stessa medaglia, e come tali, non possono essere viste contemporaneamente. Questa apparente dicotomia spinge i progettisti audio ad affrontare i problemi da due punti diametralmente opposti. Chi si affida alle proprie emozioni e chi si affida al proprio computer. Sic et simpliciter. Ma guardando in profondità attraverso il lato scientifico della medaglia, questo falso ostacolo scompare e la mente corregge l’inganno degli occhi. In quel punto Musica e Scienza si fondono. Esistono allora due modi per offrire a chi ascolta il piacere dell’esperienza musicale: Essere un Maestro Artigiano di strumenti musicali oppure essere un progettista di sistemi audio.Pensiamo al modo in cui un suono prende forma.Sappiamo per esperienza che è necessario generare un movimento oscillatorio avanti-indietro delle particelle d’aria per consentire la propagazione dell’energia acustica. Esempi di corpi vibranti sono le pelli del tamburo, i rebbi del diapason, le corde pizzicate… Ma ci sono anche sorgenti sonore che in apparenza non sono veri e propri corpi vibranti come ad esempio la tromba o il clarinetto, che da un punto di vista fisico sfruttano il funzionamento di massa oscillante di volumi d’aria. In ogni caso deve essere soddisfatta la condizione di vibrazione forzata delle molecole d’aria che si trovano a contatto con una qualsiasi superficie posta in rapido movimento. Tale vibrazione deve persistere per un intervallo di tempo necessario al nostro sistema percettivo per tradurre lo stimolo neuro-sensoriale in sensazione uditiva, in caso contrario non avremmo consapevolezza di alcun suono.Qual’è allora l’obiettivo di un provetto costruttore di strumenti musicali? Semplice: trovare la ricetta segreta che consenta allo strumento di conservare uno stato di vibrazione persistente il più a lungo possibile. Ma questo è ciò che normalmente indichiamo come risonanza, possiamo quindi affermare che il fine ultimo di un corpo vibrante atto a produrre suoni gradevoli all’orecchio è di rilasciare progressivamente nel tempo l’energia che esso ha ricevuto istantaneamente tramite l’impulso di eccitazione ad opera di un archetto … di un plettro … di un battente … di un ancia … Più la risonanza è ricca di armoniche (nell’accezione comune del termine), più il suono percepito sarà gradevole. Ma, per comprendere a fondo il significato di questa frase è necessario considerare il funzionamento di un sistema di altoparlanti.Per affermare la validità di quanto detto sarebbe spontaneo per chiunque istituire l’analogia strumento musicale/trasduttore elettroacustico, ma non sarebbe davvero il caso… Tanto i diffusori acustici quanto gli strumenti musicali sono dotati di una struttura rigida contenente un volume d’aria che agisce da carico acustico per i primi e da risuonatore per i secondi. Se fossero simili nel funzionamento nessuna qualità musicale sarebbe possibile per entrambi poichè sono volumi d’aria con scopi differenti. Infatti, per riprodurre la complessa struttura dell’energia irradiata da un violino, è necessario far transitare il segnale elettrico generato dai microfoni attraverso un sistema audio assolutamente privo di risonanze, diversamente sarebbero percepiti suoni non presenti nella registrazione. Tutti i sistemi fisici tendono a conservare per inerzia la quantità di energia acquisita, ed un altoparlante non fa eccezione, quindi il progettista audio diventa l’alter ego del Maestro Artigiano. Entrambi realizzano dispositivi per generare suoni, ma se il primo è nemico giurato della risonanza, il secondo ne è fedele alleato…Tuttavia, non tutte le risonanze sono lecite per uno strumento musicale, alcuni compromessi devono essere accettati per il controllo dello smorzamento e della purezza timbrica. Similmente, non tutte le risonanze di un trasduttore elettroacustico possono essere perfettamente smorzate, alcuni compromessi devono essere accettati, ed una quantità residua di energia sarà sempre presente durante la riproduzione. A questo punto la partita sembrerebbe finita, una volta stabilita l’esatta proporzione tra suono desiderato e suono indesiderato, utile a rendere l’ascolto dei sistemi audio ad Alta Definizione il più convincente possibile. Purtroppo, non esiste una relazione analitica universalmente valida tra le due situazioni. Ciascun progettista conserva il proprio punto di vista basato sull’ esperienza d’ascolto e sui dati acquisti con misure e simulazioni. Ma, diversamente dalle aziende concorrenti, Chario Loudspeakers non fornisce risposte assolute, bensì risposte relative, scientificamente giustificate, e quindi costantemente migliorabili. Poichè questo genere di argomenti è indissolubilmente legato alla sfera emotiva, è impossibile tracciare un unico percorso verso la meta, siamo certi però che ancora una volta il nostro punto di vista sarà apprezzato dagli Audiofili di tutto il mondo che hanno creduto in noi fin dal lontano 1975

Because of that some are in search of good audio reproduction trusting their emotions only, and some others trusting their CPU's as well. Sic et simpliciter. Pochi concetti sono necessari per comprendere il funzionamento del progetto Serendipity. L'idea è quella di offrire all'ascoltatore l'illusione di "essere lì" mediante la seguente strategia: 1. Estrarre le informazioni di ambienza normalmente contenute nelle incisioni standard;2. Presentare le variazioni di pressione alle orecchie dell'ascoltatore in un modo nuovo;3. Ridurre al massimo grado l'influenza negativa delle prime riflessioni. L'immersione in un campo acustico "surround" credibile è ovviamente il target da raggiungere... ma le leggi fisiche non possono essere ignorate. Alcuni limiti sono connaturati con la catena audio di ripresa/riproduzione/percezione, e persistono nostro malgrado. Un'incisione accurata contiene una grande quantità di informazioni ambientali associate al campo riverberato. Riflessioni di contenuto energetico intenso convogliano informazioni circa le dimensioni della sala da ripresa e sono strettamente legate alle sensazioni di localizzazione delle sorgenti, mentre le informazioni di ambienza e di profondità di campo responsabili dell'effetto olografico, sono contenute e trasportate dal campo energetico di decadimento a lungo termine. Only a few concepts are necessary to understand the rationale behind the Serendipity design. We tried to give the listener a better illusion of being there in three steps: 1. Pulling out existing ambience information from standard recordings;2. Presenting them to the ears in a different manner never tried before;3. Reducing to the minimum the influence of listening room boundaries. It seems compulsory to disperse the information over a wider area to let our brain localize the resulting multi-direction distribution of the ambience signals. This in-turn leads to the smearing of the direct sound compromising the front sound stage. Academy Serendipity is based on the assumption that a vertical array of sources with different frequency bandwidth, different gain and different group delay can act as a Distributed Source, generating at the listener’s ears some Cross-Talk signals useful to enlarge the side perspective while keeping the correct Localization Cues. To achieve this the Academy Serendipity design manages the frequency distribution of acoustic energy from Floor & Ceiling, the first reflections, by means of the proprietary WMT TM Alignment configuration and the geometry of the Vertical Reversed Driver Array. Phoenix  The Phoenix system is a multi-channel stereophony dedicated central speaker. Because its primary job is to deliver a full intelligible message, both transparency and detail were assumed as absolute design target. Nothing is better than a small speaker for reproducing sound nuances. So we decided for a symmetrical horizontal array of Lynx drivers. This solution let the viewers at both sides of the “sweet spot” to wholly perceive dialogue information or centre-line musical sources without altered timbre or fuzzy localization cues.
